Modern gas pressure regulators fulfil several functions simultaneously. They reduce the cylinder pressure to the working pressure of the appliances, trigger a safety valve in the event of an accident and switch from the empty to the full gas cylinder. Despite the high quality of Truma gas pressure regulators, problems can arise, which we would like to draw our customers’ attention to. We also give you some tips on how to maintain your gas system for as long as possible.
Gas pressure regulator oiled up
Gas pressure regulators can oil up. This is often caused by contamination in refillable cylinders and also in gas for vehicle tanks. The contamination is in the form of aerosols. These oily substances, such as olefins, paraffins and other hydrocarbon compounds get into the LPG via the logistics chain. When you buy the gas, you see no difference between clean and contaminated gas.
If the oily particles are drawn into the gas flow, they can accumulate in the gas pressure regulator, the hoses, pipes and valves and cause blockages. If a gas pressure regulator is damaged and no longer works due to oiling up, it has to be completely replaced. Truma gas pressure regulators fulfil various DIN standards for caravans and, for safety reasons, must be constructed in such a way that they cannot be opened. This is why gas pressure regulators cannot be cleaned or repaired.
Truma gas filters
To keep your Truma gas pressure regulator working as long as possible, have a gas filter installed upstream from the regulator. This separates up to 99% of the oily particles in the LPG, reliably protecting the entire gas system against contamination.
Truma gives a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty on material and production faults. Since contamination is neither a material nor production fault, this defect is not covered by our warranty or goodwill. With our gas filter, we provide reliable protection, which is why warranty claims are accepted only when our gas filters are installed.
Tips to protect the Truma gas regulator
- Truma gas filters are suitable for all wall-mounted gas pressure regulators and for refillable gas cylinders.
- Have your specialist workshop install a gas filter between the regulator and the gas hose.
- Check the filter cartridge every time you change the cylinder. If there is oily residue, clear liquids or white lime deposits on the cartridge or in the filter cup, the cartridge is saturated and must be replaced.
- Replace the filter cartridge at least every two years.
Iced-up gas pressure regulators
Your gas pressure regulator can ice up even at temperatures around the freezing point. The gas flow first decreases and then stops completely. This is because LPG contains traces of water. At around 0 °C tiny ice crystals can form from this. When gas is withdrawn, they get into the regulator and ice it up. Please note – at much lower temperatures the water in the gas freezes into small lumps. They settle on the base of the cylinder and don’t reach the regulator.
EisEx regulator heater
If you travel with your caravan or motor home during inter-seasonal periods, a regulator heater prevents your gas pressure regulator from icing up. EisEx from Truma is an electric heater that stops icicles forming on the regulator and blocking it. Consequently, the Truma regulator heater ensures a trouble-free gas supply even on cold days.
